With Presidents Day just around the corner on Monday, some will be thankful the person they voted for is in office, while others will lament the choice.

Regardless, praying for and supporting national and world leaders is an important duty for Christians.

“It has never been more critical to pray for our president than the days we live in now,” said Tennessee Pastors Network  President Dale Walker. “Our leaders are accountable to God, and fervent prayer is extremely effective. The best way to support our republic is by praying for the president daily. Our prayers uphold our leaders and will touch the heart of God, and he can hear from heaven and heal our land. To have godly leaders, godly people must pray for our leaders. Queen Mary stated that ‘I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe.’ John Knox was imprisoned, but he still prayed for his country and leaders, and he had power in his prayers—and the Queen knew it. May God help our prayers get beyond earthly thrones and into the throne room of heaven to move the heart of God to help our president and our country.”
